David J. Pauleen (PhD) is senior lecturer at the School of Information Management at
Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. Current research interests include
knowledge management in the private and public sector, cross-cultural factors in
information and knowledge management, and virtual team leadership, dynamics, commu-
nication, and technology. His work has appeared in the Journal of Management
Information Systems (2003–2004), Journal of Global Information Management, Lead-
ership and Organizational Development Journal, Journal of Knowledge Management,
Journal of Information Technology, and Internet Research–Electronic Networking
Applications and Policy. He is also editor of the book, Virtual Teams: Projects,
Protocols and Processes (2004).


Tu-Anh T. Phan is a senior software engineer at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL)
where she is responsible for the implementation of many Web-enabled database
systems, such as those that support JPL flight projects and proposal activities. Currently,
she is leading the development of the NASA Program and Project Management Support
System. She received her Bachelor of Science in mathematics from the University of
California, Los Angeles, and has been with JPL since 1994.


Eliot Rich is an assistant professor in the Department of Information Technology
Management, School of Business, University at Albany. His research and teaching focus
on the interplay between software systems, knowledge management, and technology
implementation. His approach combines computer simulation with the techniques of
organizational analysis to identify and analyze complex business and governmental
problems. Prior to receiving his PhD from the University at Albany, he worked for 13 years
as a software designer, business analyst, and development manager in the financial,
health care, and public sectors. He also holds degrees from Harvard University and
Brooklyn College.


Bernhard Schmiedinger studied computer science in Linz, Austria, and during his study
he was responsible for ICT and knowledge management at the VA TECH International
GmbH. Currently, he is research assistant in the department of organizational develop-
ment at Profactor Production Research GmbH. As project manager at Profactor, he is
responsible for the EU Project Know-CoM (Knowledge and Cooperation-Based Engi-
neering in Die and Mould making SMEs), and is also involved in several national and
international projects such as the EU Project PLEXUS.


Elisabeth Stephan is a student at the University of Applied Science (College for
Information and Knowledge Management) in Eisenstadt, Austria. She worked as an
intern at Profactor Production Research GmbH in the Department of Organizational
Development and Management Systems. Her main task was assisting in a research
project about evaluation and development of organizational competencies in small and
medium-sized enterprises.
