buy a new iPhone or pair of AirPods, and the
irm has recently added a bunch of features to
its core Apple Music ofering for free, like lossless
and spatial audio. Spotify, on the other hand,
planned to charge for such features, a sign that
the battle is heating up in an efort to win over
more subscribers. Apple began expanding into
other areas and recently launched the Apple
Music Voice plan, a $4.99 service that only
allows users to access music via Siri. Though
not for everyone, it’s another string to Apple’s
bow and helps make streaming even more
accessible to those who don’t want to buy
music. Add in the student plans and Apple One,
and it’s never been cheaper to access music -
killing of iTunes was perhaps one of the best
things Apple did. The igures would back up the
strategy; Business of Apps reports that, in 2019,
Apple earned $2.8 billion from its Music service
and $4.1 billion in 2020. The irm topped an
estimated 72 million users in 2020 and 98 million
in 2021, so the chances are that revenues are
up towards $5 billion or even $6 billion, though
the company does not disclose exact data for
individual products or services, so analysts must
extrapolate and make estimates.
