of food in the stomach and small intestine—these organs need to be
detoxifi ed. Potato and carrot juice are good general cleansers of all
these organs, particularly the liver, while the chlorine in cabbage cleans
the debris from the mucous membranes in the stomach.
Detoxifi cation of the colon is the most effective means of preventing
asthmatic attacks because it is in the colon that acidic waste matter
gives off toxic gas that diffuses from the colon to the liver or kidneys
and then onto the lungs. My students at City College who are from the
Caribbean islands describe an old folk remedy—a dose of castor oil
once a month—which proves that by removing toxins from the colon,
asthmatic attacks can be prevented. When asked why this remedy
works, they reply, “Clogged colon, clogged lungs.” The fact that garlic
often heals respiratory and intestinal disorders at the same time sup-
ports the contention that detoxifying the colon clears up the lungs.
Professor E. Roos of St. John’s hospital in Freiburg, Germany, used
garlic to cure a patient of diarrhea. Not only was her intestinal function
normalized, but the swelling and redness of her tubercular lungs also
went down.
Asthma and other lung diseases are associated with a green vegetable
defi ciency. The healing of a severe asthmatic with a “green” drink is an
example. Myron Cheminrow, a vegetarian and long-distance runner,
teaches children who are homebound because of illness. He had a stu-
dent, age twelve, who had asthma so severe he was on seven different
medications. Kevin spent more time in the hospital than at home and
was too drugged to do much of anything, let alone his schoolwork. A
bright boy with an above-average IQ, Kevin was three grade levels
behind in reading and could hardly hold a pencil in his hand. Both
mother and son were desperate enough to follow any nutritional advice
that Myron had to offer.
He recommended what Kevin referred to as “a whole plateful of
vitamin pills” as well as four teaspoons of green powder made up of
freeze-dried vegetables in juice or water. Myron also attached a water
fi lter to the water line under the kitchen sink and to the faucet in the
bathtub because Kevin got hives from the chlorine in the water. At
Myron’s suggestion, Kevin’s mother bought an air cleaner. This regi-
men brought Kevin back to life. He is now on only one drug, can run
and play after being an invalid for three years, and writes legibly for the
