underactive. The osteomyelitis in her leg bone would never have devel-
oped if the immune system had sprung into action. And it didn’t react
at all to the rapidly multiplying bacteria that infected her fi nger while
she was gardening. Furthermore, autoimmune diseases are much more
prevalent among those with underactive immune systems. For example,
rheumatoid arthritis is thirty times more common in individuals who
have an immune defi ciency disease called Bruton’s syndrome than in
individuals who don’t have this syndrome.^1

The Underlying Cause of Rheumatoid Arthritis and
Osteoarthritis

The systemic nature of arthritis and other degenerative bone problems
is a reminder that the circulating blood is the principal carrier of the
toxic agents that cause disease. Australian scientists, researching the
cause of arthritis, came up with part of the answer. They discovered
that the thicker the blood the more likely the individual is to have
osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis.^2 They attribute the thickened
blood to small blood clots in the capillaries that feed the bone joints.
But then they veer off in the wrong direction by claiming that these
small blood clots are wholly the result of high blood pressure and ele-
vated cholesterol and triglycerides.
Holistic doctors, chiropractors, and naturopaths come closer to the
answer when they point a fi nger at acid waste in the blood as the clot-
ting agent that congeals the blood and leads to arthritis. But they take
for granted that this acid waste is the naturally occurring by-product
of metabolic function. This seems unlikely.
I’ve found that people with arthritis are exceptionally prone to food
allergies. That explains why they have thick blood. Food allergens, con-
taminated by histamines, turn into acid waste particles. As they accu-
mulate they stick together, and when this happens the blood thickens.
The blood, congealed as a result of these wastes, is no longer diluted
enough to transport nutrients and oxygen to the bones. As a result, the
bone joints become malnourished and deteriorate. The “cement” (col-
lagen) that holds the bone cells together is washed away by the sur-
rounding waste-filled synovial fluid. The bones suffer another
onslaught. To protect the alkaline pH of the blood, acid waste in the
