After a camera has created an image from light, it has to put
the image somewhere. Conventional cameras store images on
film. Digital cameras store photographs in digital memory,
much like you save a Word document or a database to your
computer’s hard drive. Storage begins in your camera and
continues to your personal computer.

USB connection:
A jack where you plug
in a universal serial bus
(USB) cable to send
photos from your cam-
era to your computer.

Internal memory:When
you take a picture, the
image is held here, briefly,
until it can be passed on to
a removable memory chip.
