Communicative language teaching
An approach to language teaching that emphasizes these principles:
- Students learn a language best through using it, not just by learning about it and
memorizing rules and vocabulary. - In the classroom, students should participate in real communication about their
own interests and experiences by using the target language. - Language learning should be linked to the kinds of communication students will
need to do outside the classroom. - Teachers should use authentic texts and real-life language as much as possible.
- Students should focus not only on the language itself, but on how they are
learning it. - It’s all right to take chances and make mistakes. That’s how we learn.
