Critical period hypothesis
A theory in linguistics that suggests that there is an ideal time for children to learn
language lasting up to the age of about 12 to 14. Children learn the sounds of
language more naturally than adults during this time and can approach native speaker
pronunciation if they are surrounded by the language and have many chances to hear
its pronunciation.
