predictions of the gap hypothesis requires an
examination of the impact of gaps on the diver-
sity of all dominant plant functional groups
(e.g., trees, lianas, shrubs, and herbs), as well
as examination of whether gaps permit some
species to remain in the community by enhanc-
ing size-, age-, or growth-form-specific rates of
reproduction.
