The Star
Inscribed and dated “HARRIET W. FRISHMUTH © 1918” at top of self-base, numbered “#293” and stamped “GORHAM CO FOUNDERS Q505” at
edge of self-base.
Bronze mounted on a square marble plinth, height 18 3/4 in. (87.6 cm) without plinth, diameter of self-base 4 in. (10.2 cm).
Condition: Cracked index finger on figure’s right hand, uneven patina, dust in the interstices.


Provenance: From a private Maine collection.


N.B. This sculpture is listed in Captured Motion, The Sculpture of Harriet Whitney Frishmuth, A Catalogue of Works, Conner, Lehmbeck Tolles &
Hohmann (New York: Hohmann Holding LLC, 2006), p. 237. The catalogue describes the work as follows, “The Star Modeled 1918; cast 1920
-before 1955...The first six casts of The Star were ordered by Frishmuth between 1920 and 1923 and were assigned the serial QAZF. Beginning in
1923, the work was produced under Gorham’s royalty system. Casts were then stamped with the serial Q505 and numbered 1 through 338.”
