Exercise 10.5: Spreading the toes
Aims: spreading the toes in line with the metatarsals,
mobilizing the joints between the toes and the
metatarsals, subtle correction of hallux valgus.
- Sit on the floor with straight legs or on a chair;
if necessary use a back support. - Bend your right leg to rest your lower leg on the
left thigh so that the ankle is laterally off the thigh. - Bring your left little finger between the right
fourth and fifth toe, the ring finger between the
third and fourth toe, the middle finger between
the second and third toe, the index finger
between the big and second toe, and the thumb
around the big toe (Figure 6.200).
- With your left hand gently move the toes into
plantar flexion (Figure 6.201) and dorsiflexion
(Figure 6.202), 5–10 times. - With your left hand gently move the toes and
the midfoot into supination (Figure 6.203) and
pronation (Figure 6.204), 5–10 times.
