flattering for older clients. In years past, I used barn doors on an older Stu-
dio Master main light. If you can’t find an old Photogenic Studio Master,
I suggest using a small light source. I currently use 6-inch light reflectors
and a grid aimed directly at the mask of the subject’s face. Like everything
else in photography, this technique takes lots of practice. Make sure you’re
confident using this technique before you try it on a client. Fiddling with

I placed the subject closer to the back-
ground to create the shadow. I used a
750 watt light with a grid as my main
light (metered at f/16). I also used an
umbrella fill light behind the camera.
