bonds.
- Precious metals are relatively rare and often can be found naturally as a pure metal rather than as part of an
ionic compound. - Rare earth metals are an important set of metals because of their use in a variety of modern industrial
applications. - Alloys are solid mixtures of two or more metals (sometimes with small amounts of a nonmetal, such as
carbon). The properties of alloys may be quite different than the properties of the pure elements from which
they are formed.
