Yo cantaba en el coro.
I sang (used to sing/was singing) in the choir.

Los chicos bailaban en la discoteca.
The boys danced (were dancing/used to dance) in the disco.

Te esperábamos en la estación.
We were waiting for you at the station.

The endings for the imperfect tense of -er and -ir verbs are the same and are as follows:
comer (to eat) vivir (to live)
comía vivía
comías vivías
comía vivía
comíamos vivíamos
comíais vivíais
comían vivían


Here are some examples of the use of the imperfect tense of -er and -ir verbs:


La familia Jiménez vivía en Madrid.
The Jiménez family lived in Madrid.

Luis siempre bebía demasiado vino.
Luis always drank too much wine.

Nunca entendía lo que me decían.
I never understood what they were saying to me.

Juan y yo nos queríamos mucho.
Juan and I loved each other very much.

There are only three verbs that do not follow the above patterns and they are:
ser (to be) ir (to go) ver (to see)
era iba veía
eras ibas veía
era iba veía
éramos íbamos veíamos
erais ibais veíais
