BASIC SPANISH: A GRAMMAR AND WORKBOOK

(Martin Jones) #1

There are a few irregular verbs in which the infinitive is slightly changed before the
endings are added. Once the change is learnt, the endings are the same as regular verbs.
These irregular verbs are as follows:
caber to fit in cabré
decir to say/tell diré
hacer to make/do haré
poder to be able podré
poner to put pondré
querer to want querré
saber to know sabré
salir to go out saldré
tener to have tendré
valer to be worth valdré
venir to come vendré

In some cases it is possible to use the present tense to convey a future meaning, i.e. to
express an action that will definitely happen in the near future. This is particularly
common in colloquial Spanish:

Nos vemos mañana./Nos veremos mañana.
We’ll meet (see each other) tomorrow.

Lo hago esta tarde./Lo haré esta tarde.
I’ll do it this evening.

Vamos al cine el sábado./Iremos al cine el sábado.
We’ll go to the cinema on Saturday.
