The stomach becomes our first organ to suffer from our dietary mis
takes, and often with the painful disorder known as an ulcer. Ulcers
are not caused by nerves but by incorrect and deficient diet. The wall
of the stomach is coated with sodium which protects it from being
digested by the digestive juices. Flesh foods of all kinds attract
sodium. As we eat these foods, the sodium is drawn from the wall of
the stomach and surrounds the meat, making it indigestible in the
stomach. It must be broken down in the intestines. (The least
harmful way of eating flesh food is to swallow it in chunks as a dog
does — this manner leaves less surface for the attraction of sodium.)
Through the extensive use of meat, particularly if not coupled with
the eating of high sodium content foods, one finds too late that there
is no protective stomach coating left. In this condition the stomach
proceeds to digest itself and the result is known as an ulcer.
