The clown
Home after the party's done
I set my balloon aside
I empty my head of puns
Remove the makeup applied
Put down the red nose and wig
Pick up what's left of myself
Collect my smile, my gig
Put it on the highest shelf
And now since all color’s gone
I’m sitting in black and white
I don't even know what's wrong
Since I can't tell what is right
The jokes I tell are such lies
I just say what the crowd wants
The laughter I hear subsides
No distraction from my thoughts
People love to laugh out loud,
Go to parties, when they're down
They laugh at the clown in crowds
But who entertains the clown?
These people don’t know my pain
I hide it at curtain call
Without whom he entertains
A clown is human after all
