nology Assessment Conferences—NCCAM
supports NIH consensus conferences on CAM-
related areas through the Office of Medical Appli-
cations of Research at the NIH. Integration of
Behavioral and Relaxation Approaches Into the Treat-
ment of Chronic Pain and Insomnia,a technology
assessment conference held in October 1995,was
cosponsored with nine NIH components.^4
Acupuncture:An NIH Consensus Development
Conference was held in 1997 to review the effi-
cacy of acupuncture in therapeutic and preven-
tive medicine, jointly sponsored with eight
components of the NIH.^5
