TECHNOLOGY – Thanks to the ever-expanding
capabilities of smartphones, digital devices seem
to have become extensions of the body,
a phenomenon that’s led to an unprecedented
and somewhat contentious dependency.
Applications that can accomplish a multitude of
tasks within the purview of a hand-held screen
are pushing the analogue world away as people
devote more and more time to virtual realities.
One result is that designers are having to rethink
how we engage with ordinary objects.
Dependency on technology is evidence of
the influence of objects on human behaviour.
Product design that addresses this ‘problem’
often expresses the interaction between
people and things. Drawing attention to
technology’s grip on everyday life, designers
explore and manipulate the connection through
clever designs that either enable or inhibit our
attachment to smartphones. – AS
Can design transform how we
relate to our MOBILE DEVICES?

A streamlined series of wireless charging products, Composition by Studio Pesi makes
recharging devices as intuitive as placing a mobile phone on a table. Created in collaboration
with Samsung, the objects elevate their environment to a phygital level when customized
with components that transform them into furniture, such as a shelf, a side table and a small
bookcase. The system is based on a tray, which can be charged independently.
