ANIMA
Thom Yorke
Thomas Edward Yorke, more commonly
referred to as Thom Yorke, is best known as
the singer and lead songwriter of the English
rock band Radiohead. ANIMA is his third
studio album as a solo artist and is rooted
deeply in the electronic sound for which
Radiohead became known with their move
into the genre in the year 2000.
FIVE FACTS:
- Yorke was born in Northamptonshire,
England in 1968 and raised in Scotland
before he formed Radiohead with
schoolmates in Oxfordshire. - Yorke first achieved fame due to the
worldwide success of Radiohead’s debut
single “Creep”, which was initially released
in 19 92. - With help from Yorke’s longtime producer
Nigel Godrich, ANIMA was developed through
both studio work and live performances. - Yorke has spoken of the album’s anxious
and dystopian mood, admitting: “For
some reason, I thought a really good way
of expressing anxiety creatively was in a
dystopian environment.” - The album was promoted with the
release of a Paul Thomas Anderson-directed,
15-minute film also called ANIMA, which has
screened in some IMAX theatres and was
also brought out on Netflix.
