donned by Reese Witherspoon in the 2001
classic Legally Blonde. Prior to those products,
Apple computers were grey, ugly, and pretty
hard to market to the average consumer.
Package the technology inside a colorful case
adorned with an Apple logo, though, and
Apple was onto a winner...

Of course, Ive’s design prowess has come
a long way since his first day at Apple back
in 1992, with Jony today preferring clean
lines and neutral tones over reds, oranges,
and harsh plastics. Just listen to any of his
narrations over a product unveil, where
his much-parodied British accent swoons
over close-ups of iPhones and Mac Pros,
and it’s easy to get a sense of his passion
for the company and for the products he
designs. That passion is particularly rare in
today’s times where tech firms piggyback
off of trends (and more often than not, the
understated elegance of Apple’s design,
creating MacBook-inspired devices to
varying degrees of success.) Ive created
the Apple brand we all know and love - the
monochromes, the silvers, and blacks, the
whites, the glass, and the metal. It’s hard to
imagine how Apple would look without him.

With the stunning new Mac Pro and Pro Display
XDR, announced last month at WWDC 2019,
Jony harked back to the original Mac Pro from
in 2006. Whilst Apple has focused on space
greys, blacks, and glass for a number of years,
Ive returned to a winning formula with the new
high-end supercomputer, proving his design
palette doesn’t stagnate for long, but also that
his designs are classics.
