inscriptions, featuring an architectural backdrop
enclosed by a jeweled vine border; the first, a
Nativity scene featuring Anna and Loakim, above
Mary lying on a bed on the left, flanked by Joseph on
right, above a kneeling maid with an ewer of water,
assisting a seated figure of a maid holding the Infant
Jesus; the second, Virgin Mary entering the temple,
flanked by Joseph, portrayed as giants, towering over
a gathering of humans along with a saint.

Each panel carved as a four petal leaf, the gilt ground with a tooled star
diaper pattern enclosing a wide stylized flowering vine border; the first,
featuring the Baptism sacrament, centering the bearded figure of Joseph,
wearing an orange mantle, holding in his arms Baby Jesus, Mary, wearing a
blue mantle, her arms held wide open to receive the child, her head
against a gilt tooled halo, both figures with monastic attendants dressed in
green robes; the second featuring the True Cross flanked by Saints, with a
young Saint on the left and a kneeling nobleman on the right.

The wide bell shaped bowl with an applied band fitted with mine cut dia-
monds, pierced vine knob, mounted on a trumpet stem, spreading to a cir-
cular dish form foot rim with scenes from life of Christ, including Baptism
of Christ, Resurrection, the interior with gilt vermeil wash; the lid
engraved with Crucifixion of Christ, inscribed “DON DE LA FAMILE
VERCRUYSSE”, maker mark, the chalice and the cover stamped with the mercu-
ry bust.

plate 6 5/8 inches (16.5 cm)
