The gilt bordered rectangular panel centering a two
tiered depiction of Resurrection and Descent into
Hell, enclosed by smaller square scenes representing
the twelve Great Feasts of the Church, including
Nativity; Baptism of Christ (Epiphany); Presentation
of Jesus at the Temple; Entry into Jerusalem;
Annunciation; Ascension of Christ; Pentecost;
Transfiguration; and Dormition;
each scene with old Cyrillic inscriptions in black script.

in the Rococo Taste
Mid 19th Century
The wide bell shaped bowl with an elaborate
engraved design incorporating Venus, twin amorini,
peacock, rocaille scrolls, acanthus vine lengths and
flowers, centering a center cartouche with courting
couple in 18th century costume, the reverse with
“Nelson Robinson Oct,r. 17., 1853”, mounted on a
knobbed stem, spreading to a circular dish form foot
rim with scrolls.

Russian Nativity Icon
19th Century
The rectangular panel headed by an eye shaped
medallion depicting Christ, divided by the use of red
painted architectural columns, subdivided into hori-
zontal tiers, centering a Nativity scene of Mary lying
on a bed on the left, Joseph on the right; on the
lower tier, a group of female servants preparing the
Infant Jesus for a bath, symbolic of the Baptism sac-
rament; the side panels with scenes relating to the
birth of Jesus, a Cyrillic inscription reading the “Words
of Christ” heading the icon.

19th Century, Composed of Earlier Antique Elements
The rectangular top carved with a scrolling vine
ground, centering twin cherub form volutes over the
front panel, carved in an arch format within an egg
and dart surround with a jousting contest between
two knights on left and the victor being honored by
the king on the right, fitted with an antique iron
lock, the sides carved with vine ground mounted
with handles.

The gilt ground rectangular panel centering the
standing figure of the Mother of God with a bur-
nished gilt halo, holding both her hands in the air,
centering her robe a roundel encasing the thin figure
of an infant Jesus, enclosed by a Cyrillic inscription,
mounted in an intricately carved shadow box frame
headed by a trefoil medallion columnar stiles and a
lower conforming apron frieze.
