Lamp Fashioned As Mercury
The deity cast as a young nude male with twin
winged legs and a winged helmet, standing on one
leg on a child’s head, a caduceus in his left hand, his
right arm holding up an oil lamp cast with goat
head apertures and a satyr finial, fitted with a pen-
dant chain hung with a miniature pair of tweezers,
an ostrich, and a probe, the figure raised on a plinth
base with applied floral swag band in raised relief,
stamped on foot rim Made in Italy/ F. Coppini.

by a figure, the molded base centering an arch aper-
ture for drum form clock movement, the enameled
dial with floral garland, raised verde antico marble
specimen, the base with inscription in raised letters
“AVE CAESAR TE VICTOR SALVET”, rear base “FRANCE”.
