TheQur'ānisabookwhichcoversmanysubjectsandevents.Thediscus-
sionsofitstopicsarenotseparatedasisthe casewith normalbooks.It
discussesmanytopicsinonepageattimes,butwithoutlosingpurpose
andwithout going awayfrom the mainaim. Consideringtherange of
the topics the Qur'ān commentson, the repetition of somestories, the
non-classification of the topics, it is hard to find sucha book without
contradictions and errors.


Byhumanstandard,practicallynobook—ofanysubject—iswithout
errors andmistakes. Buthere is a book which wasnot written at one
time.Itisacollectionofpiece-mealrevelations,coveringaspanofabout
twentythreeyears.Cananyscholarbelievethatanyhumanbeing,un-
lettered,willremembereverysinglewordwhichhehadutteredduring
theprevioustwentythreeyears?Itisimpossibleandhencethechances
ofcontradictions.ButtheQur'ānhasnocontradiction;and,accordingto
that test, it is the word of God.


Moreover,ifsomeonereachesastageofmasteryoveraspecialsubject,
hemaydisplaybrillianceinthatsubject;butifheundertakessomething
onasubjectofwhichheisnotamaster,hewillnotbe abletoproduce
anydistinctivework.AlthoughtheQur'āncontainsmanydifferentsub-
jects, it has succeeded in retaining consistent style and unity of
expression.
