(A) The God of Islam

TheGodofIslamisthePreserverofallworldlythings.Heisnotthegod
of a tribe or of a special group only. In their prayers, the Muslims
say:“Al-hamdulillāhiRabbi'l-`ālamin—PraisebetoAllāh,theLord
of the Universe.” (Qur'ān 1:2)


Godisarealitywithoutparallel,beyondallhumanattributesandlike-
ness;Heisnotlikethegodsofsomereligionswho arepresentedinthe
form of a human, an animal or a thing.


TheGodof IslamisOnewithout equal;He hasnosonormotheror
father; neither partner nor associate. This is the message of a short
chapteroftheQur'ānwhichtheMuslimsreciteeverydayintheirpray-
erssoastobefarawayfromthepossibilityofassociatinganythingwith
Him.
