The people had not yet dispersed when the following verse was
revealed:
TodayIhave perfectedyour religion foryou, and Ihavecompleted
my blessing upon you, and I have approved Islam as your religion. (5:3)
Thenthe Prophetcriedout:"AllāhuAkbar!ThereligionofAllahhas
beenperfected,andHeispleasedwithmyprophethoodandthewilāyah
of ‘Ali after me."
Afterthisceremony,peoplefelicitatedAmiral-Mu'minin‘Ali.Among
theforemostofthecompanionswhofelicitatedhimwereAbuBakrand
`Umarwhosaid,"Howgoodforyou,O‘Ali,tohavebecomethemaster
of me and every believing man and woman."
