and informed the people of his decision.
SoconsultationsaimedatappointingasuccessoraftertheProphetare
clearly againstthe wishof Allah andHis Prophet,and, therefore,lack
anylegalgrounds.Wewant,however,toaskwhetherconsultativemeet-
ingswereheldaftertheProphet’sdeath,and,ifso,whetherthemajority
view was upheld.
