5. Encounters on the Battlefields
Islamwasadvancingrapidly butatthesametimetheidol-worshippers
ofQuraysh,aswellastheJewishtribesoftheHijaz,wereunrestrainedin
theirharassmentoftheMuslims.WiththehelpofthehypocritesofMed-
inawhowereamongthecommunityofMuslims,theycreatednewmis-
fortunes for the Muslims every day until finally the matter led to war.
Manybattlestookplace betweenthe MuslimsandtheArabpolythe-
istsandJews,inmostofwhichtheMuslimswerevictorious.Therewas
altogetherovereightymajorandminorbattles.Inallthemajorconflicts
suchasthebattlesofBadr,Uhud,Khandaq,Khaybar,Hunayn,etc.,the
Prophetwaspersonallypresentonthebattlescene.Alsoinallthemajor
battlesandmanyminorones,victorywasgainedespeciallythroughthe
effortsof‘AlībinAbiTālib.Hewastheonlypersonwho neverturned
awayfromanyofthesebattles.Inallthewarsthatoccurredduringthe
tenyearsafter themigrationfromMeccatoMedina,lessthantwohun-
dred Muslims and less than a thousand infidels were killed.
