But this is not the end of the story.Asweknow,thesun,togetherwithitsfamily,isplacedonthebrinkof
theMilkyWay. “Ifwe couldviewthe MilkyWayfrom avastdistance
andseeitasawhole,weshouldobservearatherflatwheelofstarswith
spiralarms—something likethe sparksofaCatherinewheel.”It con-
sistsofmanymillionsofseparatestarslikeoursun.Thissystemofstars
isphysicallyconnectedbygravitationalforcesandmovesthroughspace
as a whole. It is called a Galaxy.
Ifwethinkthatoursolarsystemisafamilyofstars,agalaxymaybe
called a very big tribe consisting of millions and millions of such
families.
Themultitudeofgalaxieswereunknowninthepast.Byabout 1920 it
wasthoughtthattherewereatleast500,000galaxies.Now,withthead-
ventofpowerfultelescopesthisnumberhadrisento100,000,000,andis
increasingdaybyday.Sofarasthe eyesofcamerasandtelescopescan
see, there are clusters and clusters of galaxies.
Humanknowledge,atpresent,isinitsinfancy.Nobodyknowswhat
is beyond these galaxies. Nor do we know much about the nature of
theirmovement. The Qur'ān says,“God has decorated the nearestsky
withtheselamps(i.e.,stars).”Soweknowthatuntilnow,wehavenot
seen the end ofeven the firstsky. Andwho knows what wondersare
hiddenbeyondthefirstsky!“Youhavenotbeengivenknowledgebuta
little.”
So,letus confineourtalktothelittlethatwe knowabout.Weknow
thattheparticlesofatomsarerotatingaroundtheiraxis;satellitesarero-
tatingaroundtheir planets;planetsarerotating aroundtheirstars; and
stars along with their dependent families, are rotating in the galaxies.
Ourfaithinmonotheism,theUnityorOnenessofGod,isthepurestin
theworld.Wehavegivencountlessproofsforourbeliefinthelastfour-
teencenturies.Nowsciencehasopenedanewpath,which,alsoleadsto
the belief in the Unity of God. It may be described briefly, in these
words: “The uniform pattern of the universe is an indisputable proof
that all this has been made by one, and only one, Creator.”
