himself; heabolishedall formsof idol-worshipping, revolutionizedthe
atmosphere of Mecca, and drew people to his religion.
Meanwhile,the Quraysh(themostpowerfultribeinMecca towhich
the Prophet belonged)were becoming ill atease with the progress he
wasmakingandtriedhardtostophispreaching,evenoncetryingtokill
him;butwiththehelpandprotectionofGodalltheirtortures,persecu-
tionsandschemeswerewithouteffectandcametonothing.Daybyday
thecalltoIslam,andalsotheacceptancebypeople,spread,eventothose
whocamefromoutsideMecca.Peopleroseupwiththeirsoulsinanswer
to this Divine invitation.
Intheeleventhyearoftheprophethood,somepeoplefromthetribeof
KhazrajofMedinacametoMeccatoperformthepilgrimage.TheProph-
etinvitedthemtoIslamandtheyaccepted,withthepromisethatwhen
theywent backtoMedinathey wouldcall the peopletoMuhammad's
religion.TheywenttoMedinaandspreadtheinvitationoftheProphet.
The next year, twelve Medinese accepted the faith of the Prophet of
IslamatAqabaandresolved:nottoassociateanythingwithAllah,notto
steal,nottofornicate,nottoindulgeininfanticide,nottobringmalicious
accusations against anyone, not to disobey the Prophet in any thing
whichheindicated.ThentheProphetsentamanbythenameofMusab bin
Umayr with themto teachthe Qur'ān,and thus a large groupin
Medina pledged their faith in the Prophet.
