negligence

Introduction

In this chapter we introduce the law of torts.

Torts are wrongful acts against an individual, a company or their property that
give rise to a civil liability against the person who committed them.

There are a number of torts, however negligence is the one that will concern
you most in your studies.

Your syllabus requires you to understand the nature of torts and to explain the
factors that must be present for claims to succeed. By focussing on the rules
and their related cases you will be able to apply them to any case given to you
in an exam question.
