My mom started making this dish a few
years ago, and I just had to get the
recipe. With the addition of lentils, it’s
very South Indian-inspired, and it’s a
wonderful way to get a little added
protein with your veggies.


1 tablespoon oil


1 teaspoon cumin seeds


1 tablespoon split gram (chana dal),
soaked in hot water


4 cups (about 1½ pounds [680 g]) green
string beans, cut into ½-inch (13-mm)
pieces
