Brown rice has come a long way! It
used to be shunned by most South
Asians for being too hard and dense.
Even my dad spent years fighting my
mom’s attempts to get him to eat brown
rice. These days, there are more
varieties to choose from, including
long-grain basmati versions. I suggest
trying it again and subbing it for white
rice at times to get all the nutritional
benefits of the whole grain. If you don’t
want to make the switch right away,
mix in cooked brown rice with your
favorite cooked white rice and
transition slowly.
