Les adjectifs possessifs (Possessive adjectives)

Possessive adjectives serve to express my, your, his, her, our, and their. Th ey are masculine or femi-

nine, and singular or plural according to the noun they describe. Th e adjectives mon(my),ton

(your—familiar), andson(his or her) are used before a masculine singular noun, as well as before

a feminine singular noun that starts with a vowel sound.

mon oncle (m.) my uncle

ton pull (m.) your sweater

son chat (m.) his/her cat

mon amie (f.) my friend

ton écharpe (f.) your scarf

son étable (f.) his/her stable

Th e adjectives ma (my), ta (your—familiar), and sa (his or her) are used before a feminine

noun that does not start with a vowel sound.

ma tante (f.) my aunt

ta robe (f.) your dress

sa tortue (f.) his/her turtle

Th e adjectives mes (my), tes (your—familiar), and ses (his or her) are used before plural

nouns.

mes parents (m. pl.) my parents

tes habits (m. pl.) your clothes

ses animaux (m. pl.) his/her animals

To e x p r e s s our, your (formal or plural), and their, the possessive adjectives are the same in

the masculine singular and feminine singular forms.
