what you know, you reinforce your own talents while also making the
world around you better. You are being a good steward of your talents.

Samuel was a mentor to David and recognized David’s heart and will-
ingness to prepare himself. Although, David did not know Samuel had a
direct line with the King, his preparation in becoming a skilled musician
made it possible for a poor shepherd boy with no future to stand before
the king. Proverbs 22:29 says, “Do you see a man skilled in his work; he
will serve before kings, he will not serve before obscure men.”

I have been fortunate enough to have a mentor assist me from the very
beginning of my career, and subsequently have been promoted 13 times
in 13 years. Finding someone that is successful in your field, and model-
ing that person, is the fastest way to achieve superior results. I’ve been
mentoring someone for many years, and he has since attended a top
business school and is now on the fast track at a major corporation.

Spending time with someone who has already done something you
strive to do shortens your learning curve. You can take years to learn it
all by yourself, or you can listen to your mentor, apply his or her advice,
and achieve success in a shorter time. One caveat: make sure the people
who mentor you are qualified to teach what you desire to learn. Look for
the number one person in the field of your interest.

When you are growing your talents, growth will follow in other areas
as well, most notably in the treasure you receive. Treasure is the fruit
of our labors and is the third “T gift” that we receive, of which we must
become good stewards.

As the story goes, David did the things in the natural that he needed to
become the wealthiest person in his day and ultimately, King.

Making it to the top 1% in income and wealth is undoubtedly hard and
can take many years to accomplish. For me, it took over 15 years of go-
ing to school, laboring days, nights, and weekends, moving around the
country, and being open to projects and traveling to places I couldn’t
pronounce, much less find on a map. Whatever your financial goals may
be, I’ve found that the more you give in the natural the more you receive
in the supernatural.
