When I was a 12-year-old youngster and asked what I wanted to do
when I grew up, my answer was clear: “I’m going to play tennis for the
Stanford University tennis team.”

Without knowing it, I had thrown a pebble in the pond of my life....and
the ripples began.

To be honest, as a junior tennis player from Denver, Colorado, I had no
idea how I was going to realize my dream of playing for mighty Stan-
ford. Colorado wasn’t exactly a tennis hotbed like California or Florida,
but I was determined to find a way.

After years of working extremely hard, in both school and tennis, my
dream was fulfilled when I accepted a tennis scholarship to matriculate
