All-American and National championship tennis player on “the Farm.”
Fortunately, I was able to use my Stanford education on and off the ten-
nis court to become one of the top 100 players in the world on the men’s
professional tennis tour.
When I think back on how I envisioned my future when I was 12, I
recognize that I was artfully creating my desired future by crafting my
unique version of the perfect “lifestyle”...for me.
You may have heard of the term “lifestyle design” popularized by best-
selling author Tim Ferriss:
It’s the idea that you can consciously create the life of your dreams filled
with abundance, passion, and fun while fulfilling your true purpose in
life. Many visionary leaders show us that you don’t have to follow the
9 to 5 corporate “American Dream” model. I’ve chosen to become one
of those visionaries by creating a lifestyle filled with freedom and fun
that revolves around following my passion and mission to contribute to
the world.
As Tim Ferriss explained in the 4 Hour Work Week: Escape 9-5, Live
Anywhere, And Join the New Rich, “The New Rich (NR) are those
who abandon the deferred-life plan and create luxury lifestyles in the
present using the currency of the New Rich: time and mobility. This is
an art and a science we will refer to as Lifestyle Design (LD).”
It has been a life-changing experience for me to question the concept of
working tirelessly for 45 plus years before retiring into the sunset at age 65.
Unless it’s actually your idea of the ideal lifestyle, you really don’t need
to follow this more predictable way of living anymore. Ultimate free-
dom is very possible for you. What’s really cool about the information
age today is that multi-media platforms are readily available for you
to share your message. You now have ample opportunities that were
never possible before. All you have to do is expand your awareness and
change your definition of “work.”
The truth is that a VERY small minority of individuals has been lucky
enough to have someone in their lives that went against the grain to
become a successful entrepreneur and create abundance in more ways
