There is something magical that takes place when a group of like-mind-
ed people come together. I was in the back of the room about to jump
out of my seat the first time I was able to sit in on a sales team meeting.
I was completely transformed. The idea of taking a current reality and
going to work on what it takes to achieve a desired reality shocked my
system. At a time when I was searching for a direction, I was given
something to believe in.


I quickly learned that the myth that all you need to do is describe your
vision and belief and people will line up to support you is the exact
opposite of the truth. The goal of achieving something worth talking
about is what every team strives for, and this quest will always be ac-
companied with resistance. Every step of progress is face-to-face with
mediocrity trying to stop it in its tracks. I discovered that people pushing
against your mission to do something extraordinary is what makes the
journey worth doing.


I have been building sales/marketing teams ever since. I have seen: (1)
incredibly talented individuals leave their team and take a pay cut to be
a part of a winning team, (2) dream teams crumble in record time, (3)
teams never get past step 1, and (4) teams overcome incredible adversity
to achieve their goal and have a blast in the process.
