and successfully is reliable and up-to-date hardware with the latest soft-
ware operating system installed. Technology is rapidly changing on a
yearly basis (or less), and having the right technology tools in place is
essential to operating your business.
Mobility is a big factor in end-user computing. Mobile computing and
being able to access information for work – using phones, laptops, or
tablet devices – is the new standard in enterprise computing. Desktop
computers are still commonly used, but typical computer users have at
least two other devices they use to access the Internet and work elec-
tronically.
For me, I have a total of four devices I use for work: a desktop, laptop,
tablet, and mobile phone. This may seem like overkill, but it’s not for a
busy and mobile professional like me. It’s essential that I have access to
my company information regardless of where I am. When I’m in my of-
fice, I use my desktop. When I’m working from home, I use my laptop,
and when I’m meeting with clients on the road, I use my tablet because
it’s lightweight and I can easily carry it with me everywhere I go. Then,
of course, I have my phone for easy access to my email and the ability
to handle important communications while I’m on the go.
Professionals today are much more demanding with what hardware they
want to use for work. They also often demand to use their own equip-
ment instead of company-owned equipment. Most companies can’t
