very conservative and did not want to lose what her parents had worked
their whole lives to save. Unfortunately, he did not listen to what she
wanted, and instead invested much more aggressively. It was hard for
her to learn to trust a financial advisor again, but after three meetings of
just getting to know each other, we were both confident that we would
be a good fit. After encouraging Lori to attend my Savvy Women’s Club
Class Series, she is much more confident and not at all afraid to ask lots
of questions before she makes any financial decisions. She has become a
great role model to her daughters who have now graduated college with
no school loans and have begun successful careers of their own. Liz is a
graphic designer and Kari is a psychologist. Lori and I have encouraged
them to learn about their investments and to spend less and save more.
They are well on their way to becoming Smart Savvy Women.

Diane and Bill were married for 24 years. They were blessed with three
great kids, two sons and one daughter. After years of study and clawing
her way up the corporate ladder, Diane continued working long hours
after Will was born so that Bill could finish his law degree. Life was
hectic, but good for many years. She managed to attend most of the
school functions, get the kids to their various sports, and even serve as
a group leader for Kacie’s Girl Scout troop. Since Bill usually worked
late, she was also responsible for arranging home repairs, car mainte-
nance, planning family vacations and juggling the monthly expenses.
After Bill’s Dad passed away, Diane also looked in on her mother-in-
law several times a week and arranged her doctor’s appointments and
trips to the grocery store and hairdresser. What an incredible woman!
Totally selfless, she dedicated herself to serving everyone in her life
with love and grace.

She admits she was probably too busy to notice, but Bill had been spend-
ing more and more time at the office – late nights and even weekends
and the occasional conference out of town. She really thought he was
just working hard for the family. Shortly before their 24th wedding an-
niversary, Bill announced that he didn’t want to be married anymore

  • just like that! Diane was a mess, the kids were acting out, and their
son Will even blamed her for driving Dad away. Bill, on the other hand,
got himself a new Harley, took skydiving lessons, and purchased a very
expensive Rolex watch. He had a new girlfriend 15 years younger with
    two small children.
