yet to meet an individual that didn’t have some thoughts of insecurity.
It’s human. Just remember that when someone else is looking to put
constraints on your potential.


leARnIng Is A stAte oF MInD not A PIeCe oF PAPeR

The idea of a 4 year program being a guaranteed path to success has had
a short-lived run in the scheme of things. That everyone should jump at
the opportunity of having uninterrupted time to pursue intellectual cu-
riosities is rare in life. But most importantly, learning how to learn will
serve you forever. Learn to sort through the massive amount of learning
options out there to acquire knowledge and skills in a way that you can
digest. This mindset of learning will allow you to grow throughout your
entire life, not just while in school. Learn to embrace the unknown with
curiosity and study.


ConneCt WIth otheRs on theIR tURF

The people you interact with aren’t really thinking about you, their pri-
orities are personal, having to do with their own entertainment, survival
and self-preservation. Don’t take it personally, being self-centered is
part of human nature and has allowed us to survive as long as we have
on this planet, it’s not about you. To connect, you need to tap into your
audience, find out what makes them tick, what’s important from their
perspective, what makes them laugh, cry or scream. Start by really lis-
tening to someone speak, ask questions, give them your complete at-
tention, use eye contact, physical touch, shaking hands, touch of the
shoulder. Your job when you are trying to connect is to make others feel
comfortable and understood. This will allow you the opportunity to con-
nect past the noise.


sPeAk WIth ClARItY so YoU CAn Be heARD

Having your ideas and feeling understood requires the ability to speak
in a way your audience can understand. Not everyone hears the same
way. Each person that you communicate with speaks a different lan-
guage, and your job is to translate accordingly so you can hear and be
heard. You don’t walk into a bank and chat like you are at a football
game. Situational appropriateness will help get your message heard.
