UlTImATE SUccESS GUIdEAnother very important consideration when choosing a mentor is that
of values. Make sure the values of your mentor are consistent with your
values. That will be key to a successful mentoring relationship. I have
a person that came to my firm as a new financial advisor about five
years ago. He had a very successful career in radio, but was new to the
financial services industry. I have had the good fortune of developing
a mentoring relationship with him. I talk with him on a daily basis, en-
courage him and help him reach his goals. He has very specific goals
that he has outlined for himself and because of the success that I have
had, I can help him achieve those goals. However, the overall reason
that mentoring relationship has been so successful is because we share
very similar values.

to tell you what my biggest success was, I would say it’s my children.
From the time they were born it was my responsibility to raise them
to be Christians and to be productive adults. That has been the most
challenging and the most rewarding part of my life. My priorities have
always been and will always be God, my family, and then my job. I
sincerely believe I am successful today in all areas of my life because I
established and practiced a healthy balance in life and I have been very
careful to maintain those priorities.
My challenge to you is to find the right balance in your life. Don’t work
so many hours chasing an income at the expense and neglect of your
spouse and children. Establish your priorities and stick to them. It’s not
about money, it’s about creating the life you desire by achieving mul-
tiple successes – which lead to overall success.
