three minutes, rinse with a cloth
and water and voilà – dyed lashes.
This kit really is idiot-proof,
I promise. If you can apply
mascara you can dye your own
lashes. Even if you have dark
ones, you will be amazed how
they can lighten over time to
become blonde at the ends and
outer edges, so this dye can
make lashes appear darker
and thicker in minutes.

FOR THE
SHORTEST
LASHES
Surratt Noir Lash Tint
(£46; spacenk.com)
Very short or sparse
lashes require not a

THE GROWTH SERUM
RapidLash
(£32; rapidlash.co.uk)
It all started with a prescription
eye drop for glaucoma that led
to increased lash growth, and
now we have analogues of
the drug available over the
counter that really work.
This tricks your lashes into
an extended growth and rest
phase so your lashes grow
longer and appear thicker,
but you must use it every
night to notice a difference.

BOTTOM LASHES
COVERED
Clinique Bottom
Lash Mascara (£17; from
Boots and department stores)
I kid you not, bottom-lash
mascara is a thing. This
comes with the smallest spoolie,
so you can cover tiny inner and
outer lashes and bottom lashes
without smudging. A make-up
artist’s secret weapon.

THE MASCARA
THAT ALSO TINTS
Rimmel London
Volume Colourist Mascara
(£8.99; Boots)
This looks, applies and builds
like an everyday mascara but
over two weeks tints your lashes
with a semi-permanent colour.
The effects are gradual, but
you’ll notice your lashes
look darker at the tips.

THE REUSABLE
REMOVER PADS
StylPro Bamboo Barrel
reusable make-up remover pads
(£12.99 for eight; lookfantastic.com)
Some mascaras need a cloth to
remove them and single-use cotton
pads are bad for the environment,
so invest in supersoft bamboo
ones that you use
and then throw in
the washing
machine. n

This is one of those “been around
for years, please don’t let them
discontinue it” products that
always delivers, never disappoints
and is really great value for
money. It was one of the original
flexible rubber brush mascaras,
which means it can deliver
subtlety and but also be layered
up for added drama.

EASY
LASH DYE
Colorsport
30 Day Mascara
(£9; boots.com)
Mix a dye with the
activator as needed,
apply with the
spoolie supplied, leave on for

brush but a metal grooved roller
to apply colour. This new mascara
from make-up artist Troy Surratt
uses Japanese wand technology
to enable you to get into the
roots of short lashes. It works.

THE CLUMP DESTROYER
Tweezerman folding
lash comb
(£12; lookfantastic.com)
A new mascara, especially
an expensive one, can easily
overdeliver the juice to leave
lashes clumpy and clogged.
Short of wiping your new
mascara spoolie into a tissue
and wasting your money, a lash
comb can be used straight after
applying mascara to separate
lashes and remove unsightly
clumps. Remember to clean
it after use.

THE CULT
CURLER
Shiseido
eyelash curler
(£22.50; cult
beauty.co.uk)
Run, don’t walk,
because Cult now
has the global
bestselling lash
curler in stock. Much missed
since Shiseido stopped shipping
to the UK, this is the make-up
artist’s lash curler of choice. Some
have even been known to blast
it under a hairdryer for a few
seconds for extra curling power.

PRIMED TO PERFECTION
Urban Decay
Subversion Lash Primer
(£19; urbandecay.co.uk)
Most lash primers dry to a
sticky, white, clumpy mess and
are hard to cover with mascara.
This one, however, goes on
white but dries clear, is rich in
conditioning waxes so doesn’t
set hard, and makes a good base
for mascara if you have thinning
or fine lashes.
