managerstage,whichbeginswhenthe
childisaround2yearsof age,parents
oftenfeelthemostineffective,asthechild
beginstochallengetheirparental
authority.Thetravelagentstage,from
elementarytomiddleschool,involves
settingage-appropriategoalsand
motivatingthechild,aswellascontinuing
toestablishauthority.Thevolcanodweller
stage,whichoccursduringtheteenyears,
involvessupportingtheteenwhile
maintainingsomeauthorityand
responsibilityovertheteen.Thefamily
remodelerstageisthedeparturestage,
whichbeginswhenthechildleaveshome
andultimatelyinvolvesestablishinga
relationshipwiththeadultchild.The
plateauparentingstageinvolvesbeingone
stepremovedfromparentingandreliving
lifethroughgrandchildren.Thefinalstage,

embracingtheparent-childreversalas
