Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves.
A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

ur discussion thus far should lead you to the conclusion marriages and families are
complex, multidimensional entities. Because of the nature of marriage and family,
we have most often targeted the many challenges couples and families face. If marriages
and families were problem-free, we would not need to write this book. Threaded
throughout our analysis you have found a Christian perspective. We have intentionally
included this to highlight positive ways to approach difficulties, as well as to counter any
negative conclusions you might draw. Christians are not “better” than anyone else. They do
not have all the answers and they certainly make many mistakes. Paul the Apostle said,“I
can do everything through Him who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:13). The Christian
perspective holds out that promise: What wecannotdo in our own strength, Godcando in
His strength through us. This chapter will first explore what characteristics are common in
strong families, then compare similarities between family strengths and family resiliency.
The final portion of this chapter includes suggestions for healthy family functioning.
