Dominant ninths

Add ninth chord shape
on the extra note. The add9 can be an interesting variation to a straight major chord, and it is an easier chord to find
on the guitar than the others. Both dominant and major ninths can also have altered-fifth forms, in which the fifth is
flattened or sharpened. It should also be mentioned that it is possible to add a ninth on top of a fifth on the bottom
three strings of the guitar (G D A). This was popularized by Andy Summers of The Police on songs like 'Message In
A Bottle' (he also used add 9s on 'Every Breath You Take') and features prominently in Dubh Chapter's 'Palace Of
Dreams'.
