Rubber :
- Rubber is a wild tree of Amazon basin (Brazil). Rubber is obtained by collecting
the latex(milky liquid) of the tree. - The rubber plantations were started for the first time in India in Travancore and
Malabar areas. - Tropical hot and wet climate is suitable for the rubber tree. 25^0 - 350 C temperature
and 300 cm annual rainfall are ideal climatic conditions for it. - India is the fourth largest producer of natural rubber in the world.
- Kerala is the largest rubber producing state in India. About 90% rubber of the
country is produced in this state. - Other major producers of rubber are Tamil Nadu (about 3%), Karnataka (about
2%), Tripura, Meghalaya, Assam, Goa and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. - The cultivation of rubber has been encouraged in tribal areas under co-cultivation
