THE TEACHING SYSTEM IN THECOLONIES


The Western imperialists have taken initiative in affecting private
teachingcourses in the colonies. These courses aim atkilling the con-
scienceandspreadingtheobjectiveandspiritualpoverty.Theyaffirmed
thatteachingshouldassociatethemilitaryconquests.Thisisintendedto
persistontheircontrolandleadtheoccupiedcountriestomissthecog-
nizance of liberation and salvation from colonialism.
Theold imperialistplansofteachingwerenegative. Theyproposeto
reduceor eradicatethe educatedindividuals. Whenarevolutionbroke
outagainsttheSpanishcolonialisminSouthAmerica,inearly1800,the
generalcommanderraisedanotetothekingtelling oftheirarmies’tri-
umph.Healsotoldthat hetreatedtheeducatedones withan ultimate
severity.Thus,asheexpressed,heuprooted theideaofmutinyandre-
bellion.InNorthAmerica,theblackwereinterdictedfromlearningwrit-
ingand reading. Detention andwhippingwere the punishmentof the
whitethatintendtoteachanyblackhowtoreadandwrite.Thispolicy,
however,failed.Theimperialistsrealizedtheirfaultwhentheyneeded
the economic conveniences of those people that require teaching the
earlyyouthforpreparingthemforcertainjobs. Onlythen,theyconsti-
tutedteachingfacultiesbut with special coursesinciting to cherishthe
imperialistsandembracetheirideologicaltrends.LordMcAllendeclared
thisfact in a report he wrote whenwasthe chairman of the Teaching
Committee in 1835 that decided English asthe teaching language. He
said,“Agroupworksastranslatorsbetweenthemillionsofoursubjects
andus.Thisgroupshouldbe Indianincolorandblood,butEnglishin
taste, opinion, language, and thinking..
Onthesameaccount,FranceconstitutedtheteachingcoursesinAlger-
ia.Asanarticleofthatdecision,itisrecorded,“Francehasprotectedthe
Algeriansandconstitutedjusticetotheircountry,andpublicizedsecur-
ityontheirlands,andprovidedthemwithteachingandcivilization.All
