cordsthatwomenaskedtheProphettoassignadayonwhichhemight
meetandteachthemandtheProphetdid.Al-Belathiricountstheladies
whowereteachersofwritingandreadingamongwhomwereHafsathe
Prophet’s wife,UmmukulthoumbintAwaba and Aishabint Sa’dwho
said,“Myfathertaughtmereadingandwriting.”.EasabinMiskinused
to gather his sons and nieces for teaching reading and writing..
Al-Jahizaffirms, “Women should not be taught writing andpoetry.
TheyshouldlearntheQuran,especiallysuraofNur.”.Al-Qabisibanned
women’slearningtoavoiddepravity.Hesaid,“Itismoresecureforwo-
men to evade learning reading.”
Infact,suchopinionslackscientificgenuinenessandresisttheIslamic
spiritandguidance.Islamhaspersistentlyusedallmethodsandpowers
foreradicatingignoranceandilliteracy,andregardedtheacquisitionof
knowledgeasanindividualrightof everymaleandfemale.It hasalso
burdenedthegovernmentsofarrangingequalopportunitiesofobtaining
knowledgeapartfromrace,nationality,andsocialclass.Ithasdeclared
thateveryhumanbeingshouldenjoytherightoftheexpansiveparticip-
ation in the scientific and conceptual activities.
TheIslamicmissionisbaseduponknowledgeandbelievinginitsbe-
ing an important element of social progress of individuals and com-
munitiessinceitisnotdevotedtomenexclusively.Women,whoseroles
inestablishingthehumanesocietyandlifeprosperityandmaturityhave
beendistinctivelyandhighlypraisedandestimatedinIslam,arealsoin-
cludedbecausetheyformthebasicgrounduponwhichfamilystructure
isbuilt.HowisitacceptablethatIslamthatgavewomenunprecedented
respectandgrantedthemasmuchaspossiblerightsinscopesofgeneral,
aswellasindividual, relationswithgovernmentsandsocietieshaspre-
ventedthemfromobtainingknowledge,whichistheguidetosocialand
conceptual maturity and progress?
Itisimpossibleforwomentoattainandrankofelevationandperfec-
tionunlesstheyconstructtheirlivesonbasesofknowledgeandreligion.
