Suggestive Rebuke

Muslim educationists believe that the insinuative rebuke should be
withinthe teachingmethodsincase pupilsshow irregularbehavioror
imperfect worksince this method ismore impressive than expression.
They said,“Teachers who noticean irregularity or acrooked behavior
shouldnot stateitdirectlytothe pupils.They shouldinsinuate within
theircommonspeechbyreferringtothedisadvantagesofsuchabehavi-
or. This will achieve the intended convention.”.
Thismethod,infact,ismore usefulthandirectreproach,whichmay
leadtorebellionandinsistenceonthewrong.Islamhasassertedthistop-
icinthefieldsofeducationandteaching.ItisrelatedthatImamsal-Has-
sanand al-Hussein,the grandsonsof the Prophet,oncenoticed anold
manperformtheritualablutionincorrectly.Theyavoidedstatingtohim
directly;hence,theyagreedonmakinghimthearbiterwhoshouldrule
of the most accurate ablution. As they performed the ablution before
him,the oldmansaid,“Omasters! Youboth haveperformedthevery
accurate ablution, but it seems that the old man can master nothing.”
Islam has adopted this necessary practice since it saves the deviant
from irregularity and aberrance and takes him back to the truth and
right.Educationistssaid,“Thepupilthatisnotamendedbyinsinuative
impression, owing to lack of understanding andperception, secret ex-
pressionandfrankwarningshouldbeused.Ifthismethodisunsuccess-
ful,theteachermaywarnopenlyandreproach.Ifthisisalsounsuccess-
ful, the teacher then may dismiss and leave the pupil till he returns.”.
